Get Ready for a Pawsitively Perfect Move to Portugal with Your Furry Friends! 🇵🇹🐶

Excited about your upcoming move to the sunny shores of Portugal with your beloved four-legged companions? We’ve got you covered! Relocating with pets involves careful planning, but seeing them happy and settled in your new home makes it all worthwhile. Here’s a guide to help you navigate the process of bringing your dogs to Portugal.

Key Steps for a Smooth Move:

1. Microchip First! Before anything else, ensure your dog is microchipped with an ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15-digit microchip. This is the standard in the EU and is a crucial first step.

2. Rabies Vaccination is a Must. After the microchip is implanted, your dog must be vaccinated against rabies. Remember, the vaccination must be administered after the microchip. There’s a mandatory 21-day waiting period after the primary vaccination before your pet can travel.

3. The All-Important EU Health Certificate. For non-EU countries, you’ll need an official EU Health Certificate issued by an accredited veterinarian. This certificate is a declaration that your pet is fit and healthy to travel and meets all the EU’s import requirements. It must be completed within 10 days of your pet’s travel to Portugal.

4. Check with Your Airline. Each airline has its own specific policies and procedures for pet travel. Contact your chosen airline well in advance to understand their requirements for crates, booking, and any breed-specific restrictions.

5. Arrival in Portugal. Upon arrival, you and your pets will need to go through a designated travelers’ point of entry at the airport. Have all your documents ready for inspection.

By following these steps and planning ahead, you can ensure a stress-free journey for you and your furry family members. Here’s to new adventures and wagging tails in Portugal!
